ALMOST ANOREXIC
Posted On 11/21/2008 16:50:00 by stephfaris
Over the years I've been allowed to observe, from time to time, the eating habits of some young women. Some are teenagers, some in their twenties, but all of these types have one thing in common. Unhealthy eating habits.

When you see a girl who looks like this:

That's so true. There was a period in my life where most people would have assumed it was an eating disorder because all I would eat was special K cereal, but truly, I was so depressed I didn't have the energy to go to the grocery store or cook so special K was the easy way out. Luckily I'm passed all that :)

Absolutely, anorexia nervosa & bulimia are serious and debilitating mental illnesses and require psychiatric treatment. Having been both a dancer & in the fitness industry, I have seen far too many examples of this, including very dear friends of mine.

In each case I recommended medical treatment, but... well, these people will only seek help when they are either dying from organ failure or they realize that need it because they are so unhappy.

Usually, though not always, anorexics have issues with overbearing parents as youngsters & they only thing they feel they can control in their lives is their bodies, so they create all these bizarre & elaborate eating rituals.

It is also a way to garner attention from neglectful parents & to avoid dealing with maturity. It almost always starts at puberty... it could also be induced by the pressure to be thin if you are in an industry that requires it, like modeling, dancing, fitness, acting...

Sad stuff...

I've learned that people with eating disorders have to want to help themselves - just like someone that is addicted to drugs. Friends and family can try to intervene but that person has mental health issues that need treatment. If they can't realize that, no amount of intervention will be successful.

At least beer and pizza gets some food in your belly. And besides that combination sounds pretty damn good right now!

I HAVE BEEN ANOREXIC TWICE. I WAS IN A 26 I FIRST WENT HYPERTHROIDISM. LOST A LOST OF WEIGHT WELL THAT TOOK ME OVER THE EDGE. THAT STARTED IT ALL. I THEN THOUGHT WHEN I LOOKED IN THE MIRROR I WAS FAT. I WENT FROM A 26 TO AN 8 IN A VERY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. I FIGHT IT EVERY DAY OF MY LIFE. I LOOK IN THE MIRROR AND SEE FAT. NO ONE CAN MAKE ME BELIEVE I AM TINY, I AM SCARED TO DEATH I WILL GAIN A POUND. NOW I WANT TO GO TO A 6. YOU ARE NEVER HAPPY. I KNOW. I WISH YOU LUCK.
